Dance Competition Team:

Placements will be posted after Auditions.

Auditions are August 1st, 2025 from 9:00a-11:00a (You must at least be in 1st Grade to Audition)

Casting for 2026 Spring Season:
There will be three teams that you can/will audition for this season as well as 3 Solos/ Duets.
Rising Star Competition Team
Shooting Star Competition Team (Jazz)
Shooting Star Competition Team (Contemporary/Theatre)
Solo / Duets / Trios -

Some of the teams are harder to get into than others. Do not be discouraged if you didn't make the one, or any of the teams, there is always next year and it is an awesome experience to go through the steps of auditions. The top three scorers at the auditions will get first choice at a solo or duet followed until all the Private Lesson Slots are filled.

If we do not hear back from you by 12:00p the following day after placements are announced then you are agreeing to accept your role for the season and the rehearsal responsibilities that come with it.

Dance Captain:

Team Members: (Alphabetical)

Spring '26 Comp. Team Schedule:

All Rehearsals (in FULL) are mandatory short of a medical or family emergency, if you cannot make rehearsals you will need to step down from the team and participate in our "performance based classes" or just take classes a'la carte.

Auditions - August 1st - 9:00a-11:00a

Comp. Team Information:

This has been highly requested for several years and I was very hesitant but last year we competed with Stage One and it was a very great experience so I am happy to say we are back for more and with more. It was requested that we offer different styles, sizes, and levels of competition teams. So we are giving it a go this time. Please, read the following for more information on what to expect from this class as it will be and is very different from the Regional Performance Classes.

This is a high level, challenging class. There will be critiques made during classes and students can be called out on a personal basis to fix errors in the competition piece. If criticism cannot be accepted from the student in the effort to make themself and the entire team better than this is NOT the place for you.  (i.e. Suzy Q you are turning the wrong direction this is a Left En Dedans turn not En Dehor)

All Rehearsals (in FULL) are mandatory short of a medical or family emergency, if you cannot make rehearsals this will not be the place for you. You may speak to Miss Kayln at auditions about any scheduling conflicts that you may have to see if they might work, but this TEAM needs to be your priority.

If you have a busy after school schedule, whether that is homework, school sports, extra-curricular activities where you cannot commit to rehearsals and the time needed and required to PRACTICE the materials given this is NOT the place for you.

This is NOT a class where we are learning how to do and execute the moves that is what our other dance classes are for, this is to learn the competition piece and clean it. This is taught by a COACH not an INSTRUCTOR. (This is part of the audition process to see if the student has the knowledge to execute the moves in the piece)

You must Audition to be on the team and unlike our Regional Performance Classes not everyone that auditions will receive parts or roles. That being said we have different levels of teams this year.
Rising Star - will be for the younger and more inexperienced dancers. Do not hear me wrong that this is for beginners because it isn't. You still must be able to execute dance moves properly. A good judging base for this Team is if you are a confident Attache Dancer.
Shooting Star (Jazz) - will be for the older more experienced dancers. This will be a hard group to get into and you must be competent with the correct moves and the technique to go with them. This class will center around Jazz with big kicks, leaps, and quick moving moves. A good judging base for this Team is if you are confident Silver Jazz, Silver Hip Hop, or Silver Tap Dancer.
Shooting Star (Contemporary/ Theatre) - will be for the older more experienced dancers as well. This is also a hard group to get into and you must be competent with the correct moves and the technique to go with them. This class will be centered around story telling with powerful, thought-provoking movements. We are going to spend a lot of time discussing body and facial expression as well as putting detail into the story. A good judging base for this Team is if you are a confident Silver Dancer (any style of dance).
Solos / Duets / Trios - Unfortunately, time is a hinderance for me as I have a very busy schedule teaching a full load of classes already. I currently have 3 Private Lesson Slots for this category. Auditions will decide who gets these slots. (i.e. Suzy Q, got the highest score at auditions. She will get to decide if she wants to do this category or not. If she does she will get to pick out of the 3 slots I have for "Private Lessons' to learn and work on her piece. Suzy Q will decide if she wants to do a Solo, Duet, or Trio. She will get to pick who the partners will be if she picks a Duet, or Trio as long as that partner attended the Competition Team Auditions. (It does not matter if that other person made any other team or not) Then let's say John got the second highest score. He would decide if he wants to do this category or not as well. If he does then he will get to pick out of the remaining 2 'Private Lesson' slots that are available. Just like Suzy he will get to decide Solo, Duet, or Trio and the decisions that go along with it. We will continue down the list in order of highest score until all my 'Private Lesson' slots for this are gone.)

Just because you earned a spot on the team does not mean you get to keep your spot. Any issues against our competition policies and/ or rules can have you removed from the team for a time or permanently. (Any removal that happens due to a policy break and/ or rule breakage will not constitute a refund of any kind) You must also 'pull your weight' on the TEAM. This is a TEAM and it is important that everyone's goal is the same. Never working or practicing at home is not going to cut it for any of the comp. teams therefore we will have rehearsal tests that will be random. Each student will have to perform the learned choreography will at least an 80% or higher to hold their spot on the team. This means you will have to practice at home.

The Competition this season is in Grand Junction, you will be required to attain your own transportation to the event(s) and during our event times. This is not included in the tuition price. (Other things to consider, generally the day starts at 7:00a and will go to 10:30p - we have absolutely ZERO control over where they place each dance. You may be first, you may be last, I don't know and I won't know until 3 days prior to the event. (Yep, you read that right... 3 days prior) Many students like to get some sort of lodging so the morning isn't quite as early all three days. - Stage One (the competition company) typically does Solos, Duets, and Trios on the Friday, Groups on Saturday, and more Solos, Duets, and Trios on Sunday. TYPICALLY but it all depends on how many entries they have in each category.)

You must commit to the performance time(s) completely a lot of times they are really early mornings and really late nights. The Friday can be during the day, therefore students will be required to miss school.

You will be required to wear the costume, hair, and FULL makeup to the specks of this season's requirements. (Student's get ZERO say in the show design aspect)

Show Design -
Rising Star will be doing a piece based around Family.
Shooting Star (Jazz) will be doing a piece based around the Bad Guys
Shooting Star (Contemp/ Theatre) will be doing a piece based on next Spring's Show Create. About YOU creating the world of your dreams.
Solos/ Duets/ Trios - You will get to HELP in the show design aspect to a certain degree. You can give a theme that you like to sit with or you can give a list of songs that you would like to do. HOWEVER, a lot of behind the scenes work goes into designing a show more than just picking songs that go together. First we have to be able to obtain rights to the music (some are more expensive and some are not even available at all) you have to think about the Keys, rhythm, and timing of the piece and make sure they coordinate with each other, you also have to make sure that your style of dance matches the music as well. Then we can get into sub-points with is the story memorable, something you are passionate about, is it going to translate on the stage, etc. Students WILL NOT get to participate in the choreographing process at all. They may give suggestions of a couple signature moves to be included but nothing is guaranteed.
